Library Building Closure

UPDATE: At their May 1, 2020 Meeting, the Library Board of Trustees voted to extend the closure of the library building to the public through May 18.

The Trustees also voted to start providing “Porch Side Pick-UP”. This will allow patrons to request and pick up physical items starting May 5. Details are forthcoming, but in the meantime, please feel free to login to your library account at and place holds on books, DVDs or audiobooks that you are interested in. A staff member will pull the books and call you to schedule a time for you to pick up your material. Please DO NOT come to the library until speaking with a staff member. Full details will follow in a separate post.

Thank you everyone for your patience as we work out how to provide services safely to our amazing community!

UPDATE: Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Board of Trustees voted on April 3, 2020 to keep the library building closed to the public through at least May 4, 2020.

Dear Auburn Community –

We are currently experiencing an unprecedented public health crisis. The Library Trustees and staff are very concerned about protecting the health of our community and doing our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

We have been actively monitoring the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Control, as well as New Hampshire State and local government entities.

We are proud that Griffin Free Public Library has become a wonderful community gathering spot welcoming of everyone. We also recognize that a large percentage of our visitors are made up of young families and retirees. As there is concern that young people may be unknowingly carriers of COVID-19 and individuals over the age of 55 have been shown to be in a higher risk of severe disease with COVID-19, the Trustees have voted to close the physical building of Griffin Free Public Library through at least April 4, 2020.

The Trustees will meet again on April 3 at 1:00 PM to evaluate next steps.

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the Library Director, Kathy Growney, at who will continue to work from home during this time. She will be able to assist you with connecting to our wealth of online resources including ebooks, emagazines, streaming audiobooks, movies and music.

For those of you who have physical material already checked out – please do not worry about items being overdue. Most of your items are set for automatic renewal. If you do happen to receive an automatic overdue notice in your email, please know that we do not charge overdue fines.

If your library account comes up for renewal or you need a password to login to our online resources, the Library Director will be able to assist you.

If you need free internet access, the library’s Wi-Fi is accessible from our parking lot. We also have a couple of picnic tables outside that you are welcome to use. If you need the password, please email the Library Director.

Finally, due to our small space we are cancelling all programming for the next 8 weeks in compliance with the recent Centers for Disease Control Prevention recommendation. Please bear with us as it may take a few days for our website, calendars and social media to be updated.

We are so lucky to live in this wonderful town where people are already coming together to support one another. We know that our closure is disruptive and we appreciate your understanding.
